The Asana School of English is based in Cahersiveen, Co. Kerry, in the stunningly beautiful Skellig coastal region of Ireland’s South-West along the famous Wild Atlantic Way.

This is fantastic location to undertake your English language lessons where you can combine learning English through a range of classroom and outdoor activities as well as getting to see and explore some of Ireland’s best nature and scenery.

1. Summer Junior Programme

An international course for teenagers developing communicative abilities and encouraging self-expression through fun and enjoyable activities, based around music, drama, dance, imagining, games, movement, team building, environmental awareness, story circles and lots more.

A course at Asana is of two or three weeks’ duration and you should try to arrive and leave on the Saturday or Sunday immediately before and after your course.

Classes run from 9am to 1pm from Monday to Friday with a short break at 11am. Students then have their packed lunch together on the school premises, before beginning their afernoon excursion or indoor activity, which runs from 2pm to 5pm.

On Saturdays Asana arranges a full-day excursion to a place of cultural or scenic interest from 10am to 5pm. Sundays are free and are good days for students to spend with their host family.

Our outdoor activities include water sports, hikes in the mountains, rock-climbing, sea-kayaking, boat fishing, exploration of the coastline with a marine biologist, paddle boarding, fun & games on the beach, cycling around Valentia island, trips to nearby towns, our team- building, pro environmental ‘Tribal challenge’.

2.WORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAMME

A combination of morning English classes and voluntary work experience in the afternoon, this course will suit students who want to be fully immersed in an authentic English speaking environment while gaining valuable experience in the work area of their choice.

Students attend Asana lessons from 9am to 1pm Monday to Friday. In the afternoon/ early evening they work as volunteers in local businesses for approximately three hours each day. Placements include bars, restaurants, cafes, cottage industries, computer centres, childcare, outdoor pursuits centres and tourist services.

Students are welcome to participate on Asana excursions on Saturdays, on any days off from work and on our evening activities twice weekly.

3. Academic Year High-School Programme

Ages 15 – 17

This is a course for students wishing to spend a full academic year (nine months) in Cahersiveen’s local secondary school. Students live with one of our host families and attend TY (transition year) at Colaiste na Sceilge which combines a full range of subjects on the Irish curriculum with a series of extra curricular activities designed to increase students’ social awareness, responsibility and maturity in the world outside of school.

As well as standard academic subjects such as mathematics, modern languages, English, geography, history, physical education, music and art, Cahersiveen’s TY course offers a series of field trips, poetry and literature workshops, open days at Irish universities, a residential outdoor adventure week and a whole range of workshops developing practical and manual skills. Students participate in two work placement programmes designed to develop their work-related & communicative skills.
