FLS, Philadelphia

FLS International is committed to providing effective English as a Foreign Language education and cultural training to international students and assisting clients during each phase of their educational experience, from their initial entry into the United States to their transfer to a college or university.

FLS is located on the campus of Chestnut Hill College in northwest Philadelphia’s quaint Chestnut Hill neighborhood. A private Catholic school, the college was founded in 1924 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The beautiful campus includes striking Gothic structures, like St. Joseph Hall, a chapel, tennis courts, a soccer field and a pool house.

Chestnut Hill College offers a rigorous liberal arts education with a mission of helping to prepare students for success in all areas of life. The college, located on 75 acres in the northwestern section of Philadelphia, has expanded its campus in recent decades to include many historic buildings and new facilities to meet the needs of their growing academic offerings and student population.

Programs

• Academic English – designed for students who plan to transfer to an American college or university, the program is suitable for any student interested in gaining English fluency as quickly as possible.
• Intensive English – includes 30 lessons of instruction per week from qualified, native-speaking teachers
• General English – combines core class with a variety of academic and informal methods to take your English proficiency to new levels.
• Vacation English – offers basic instruction in the fundamental skills of English in a relaxed context. Develop your fluency while enjoying plenty of time to explore the rich cultural offerings and entertainment attractions available near our language schools.
• TOEFL Preparation – includes a total of 36 teacher-led lessons per week: 18 lessons of integrated study to improve all English skills; 12 lessons devoted to specific TOEFL strategies and skills and 6 lessons of Academic Workshops for additional language practice and skill development.
• IELTS Preparation –  includes a total of 36 teacher-led lessons per week: 18 lessons of integrated study to improve all English skills; 12 lessons devoted to specific IELTS strategies and skills and 6 lessons of Academic Workshops for additional language practice and skill development.

English + Volunteering

FLS offers ESL students a wonderful way to practice their new English skills while immersing themselves in American society by volunteering at local charities and community service centers. Join other FLS students as they perfect their conversational English while helping others! Here are some of the oportunities you will enjoy at FLS Boston Common:

Pathways + Credit

The FLS Pathway+Credit program lets students begin earning credit in Engineering, Education, or General Studies while also studying English. Our students jump ahead and save money by taking for-credit transferrable credit they can apply to their studies at TTU, or any US university.

Tennessee Tech University is one of the most affordable universities in the US. Its Engineering, Science, and Math programs are nationally ranked. At the same time, small classes and outstanding instructors help students excel. In addition to the university’s academic excellence, students enjoy the university’s safe and friendly atmosphere. TTU students have successfully gone on to further their studies at institutions including Rhodes College, Vanderbilt University, and Duke University.

Students may choose to stay in the attractive dormitories on campus or live with a welcoming local host family.
